Neighborhood vehicles "NEV's" and Low speed Vehicles "LSV's" are Electric cars that are legal to drive on city streets at "safe" speeds.

As gas prices went sky high in the early 00's people realized they didn't need a 3000 pound vehicle to drive around their towns.

Governments answered the call by adopting "green street" (electriccars.com term) laws that allowed these cars to share the roads.

At first people snickered at these cars, and we heard many stories of NEV drivers being harased and even run off the road by large SUV's who apparently felt these cars didn't deserve space in the lanes.

This shows you how messed up our culture is. Gas guzzling trucks and "Sport utility vehicles" dominated car sales... This drove gas prices even higher with their inefficient use of fuel and clogged highways and limited parking spaces with their size. People used their Gas Hog Vehicles "GHV's" as social statements of their wealth and power.

The first models introduced met opposition from safety boards and federal laws. They were deemed "unsafe to drive" and were subject to "unreasonable" legal restrictions.

But, as people changed their attitudes, and basically were "sick and tired of paying high gas prices" they began to challenge their local DMV's. Instead of making it mandatory for NEV's to be built of steel to withstand crashing into vehicles going 50+ miles per hour people demanded certain laws and streets to limit all cars from going unsafe speeds.

GOOD: The average trip in an automobile is under 3 miles with one passenger in the car at an average speed of 25 MPH. NEV's and LSV's met most driving requirements perfectly. In the early 00's neighborhoods, towns and cities adopted "green street" laws making these practical, fun and affordable cars even more popular.

BAD: It takes a while for people to see the facts. People want to feel "safe" on the road and NEV's are too small to share with 3000 pound vehicles traveling at unsafe speeds.

CONCLUSION: NEV and LSV Electric cars are the answer for 90% of the worlds automotive demand. Hundreds of new models are becoming available and they are catching on, finally!

An interesting fact about electric cars: A person born after 1990 might never drive a gas car.

As a child they would drive an electric toy car around their driveway, as a teenager their parents might buy them a NEV to get to school and around town.

As fully electric cars are now available their first highway car" might be an electric!
